If you wish to try marine collagen during this time we highly recommend checking with your G.P or lead maternity carer first.

Isn’t hydrolyzed collagen (collagen peptide) simply a protein that will be digested?
This is a common misconception. Traditionally it was thought that all protein is broken down and digested in the same manner. However, in recent years, more and more studies have been conducted with scientific evidence showing this to be untrue. In fact, after ingestion, collagen peptides have been shown to resist peptidase digestion and are absorbed into the blood circulation system at relatively high levels. Peptides derived from marine collagen help with the formation of collagen by stimulating fibroblast growth and encouraging the production of extra cellular matrix components. Numerous studies have concluded that the absorption rate of deep sea collagen by the human body is as high as 95%-98%, but will vary depending on an individual’s body condition and health.

What are collagen peptides?
Collagen peptide is hydrolyzed collagen degraded with proteolytic enzymes or under acidic conditions, retaining almost all of its original amino acid composition. Collagen peptide is easily dissolved in water and (depending on its molecular weight) will not become a gel at a low temperature.
Much different from other protein sources, collagen peptides contain a unique combination and ratio of amino acids, most importantly glycine, proline, hydroxyproline and arginine. This ratio of amino acids is the subject of clinical research studies and may hold important keys in product development and applications moving forward.  Collagen plays a vital role in the functions of nearly all of our system organs and tissues and is a key bioactive to renew cells in all areas of the body, including the hair, skin, nails, eyes, teeth, cartilage, bones, tendons, organs, blood vessels, intestines and more. The beneficial effects of collagen peptides have been reported in numerous research findings for:

Skin, nails and hair strength

Support and mobility for bone and joint health

Muscle mass maintenance

Sports enrichment for recovery, lean muscle gain

Optimum performance

Immune and digestive support

Weight management

Our collagen offers benefits for multidimensional wellness and anti-aging applications that can have a profound effect on our overall quality of life. Collagen should be an essential nutritional component for those wanting to remain healthy and active throughout their lives.

What is the difference between collagen type I, type II and type III?
Science has identified 28 different types of collagen. Type I collagen comprises about 75% of our bodies’ collagen glycoproteins and is actually the principal type found throughout the body. Marine collagen is type I collagen and contains a unique combination of amino acids including hydroxyproline, glycine and proline – distinctive peptides that stimulate cells in the skin, leading to collagen synthesis through cell activation and growth. Type I is the most abundant of the many types of collagen in our bodies and is widely present in skin, bones, tendons, ligaments and tissues. It is composed of two alpha-1 chains and one alpha-2 chain. Type I collagen is a unique bioactive peptide and is best known for providing the basis for beautiful skin, strong connective tissues and healthy bones. But the real advantage to collagen supplementation lies in its ability to enhance regeneration of the collagen cycle and stimulate cells to restore body tissues. A building block for all the body’s systems, it also is a major component of membranes that surround and protect the internal organs, and of blood vessels, ligaments, tendons and bones. One-quarter to one-third of all the protein in the body is collagen protein.
Collagen type II is composed of three alpha-1 chains and can be found only in cartilage. Although many collagen types are available, collagen as an ingredient can be classified as type I or II, in relation to its source. Most often, type II is sourced from chicken. Type III collagen is the second most abundant type of collagen, found alongside type I in skin, blood vessels and internal organs. It is present in high amounts in babies, where it provides the fullness so revered in children’s youthful skin. Type III collagen loses its elasticity as we age and is in time integrated into the rigid, tougher type I collagen. Type III collagen sources are fish, cow or pig. We are born with an abundant supply of collagen. As we age, our bodies’ ability to produce collagen levels out in our mid- to late 20s and then begins to decline, starting around age 30.

Why is our Collagen Superior?
Kaffa ReNew5® uses marine-sourced collagen. The careful selection of fish and proprietary process result in a purer product of the highest quality. Research shows type I is the most abundant of the three types of collagen and is found in bones, tendons, skin and tissues. Studies support that type I collagen peptides extracted from fish consist of small peptide molecules that have a superior bioavailability and digestibility compared to other collagen products. Due to lower molecular weight, it is absorbed at a higher level through the intestinal barrier into the bloodstream and carried throughout the body, leading to collagen synthesis in the joint tissues, bones and skin dermis.
Fish-derived collagen continues to grow in popularity due to consumer preferences for fish products over beef, pork and chicken. In addition, because our collagen is extracted from fish, it is free from any risk of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), foot-and-mouth disease or bird virus.
We only use premium select collagen peptide is scale only, with no skin, and has been processed to the ideal molecular weight. The presence of skin in fish collagen is what causes the fishy smell, taste and yellow color.  Our collagen is pure white in color, is odor- and taste-free, and is considered superior to other collagen-based products.

How does ReNew5™ assist with lean muscle gain?
The high concentration of specific amino acids in our collagen are used by the body in the creation and function of muscles, bones, joints and skin. Collagen assists with lean muscle gain and tone by promoting the production of natural creatine, which is essential for new muscle growth following workouts. Our collagen in a smoothie or cold pressed juice post-workout is a healthier and purer alternative to sugared protein bars or bodybuilding shakes. ReNew5 does not contain any fat, carbs, sugar, dairy, lactose, soy, wheat or gluten.

Do your products help with acne

Clinical research on marine collagen (oral) supplementation has largely focused on the improvement of skin smoothness, reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, and hydration. There have been statistically significant results published regarding these areas. Causes of acne can vary from person to person and whilst there has been some excellent feedback regarding acne improvement, we caution that there is still more research to be conducted in this area. Collagen supplementation has been found to be helpful for gut health, which can often be the underlying cause of skin issues in some individuals.

Does ReNew5 contain anything artificial?

No, Kaffa ReNew5 contains no antibiotics, hormones (or phytohormones or phytoestrogens), genetically modified organisms, gluten, sugar, alcohol, artificial preservatives or artificial colors.

Is your marine collagen type 1, 2 or 3?
We use only type 1 collagen for optimal delivery and absorption.

What is the difference between collagen and gelatin?
Gelatin is produced from collagen. It has gelling properties and is used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and represents 30% of total body protein.

What is the difference between collagen, gelatin and hydrolyzed collagen?
Collagen is the triple helix protein structure that holds our body together.  Gelatin is made through a process of partial hydrolysis where the particles are broken down to easier absorption.

What is the source of collagen in Collagen Complete?
We use bovine collagen from pasture-raised cattle.

Is collagen gluten free?
Yes. Our collagen is sourced exclusively from marine life and contains no gluten.

Where does collagen come from?
Marine life from North American water.

Is the collagen Rbgh free? Hormone free?
The collagen is Rbgh free and lab analysis of the collagen peptides verify that they are Rbgh and pesticide free.

Is Collagen Complete non-GMO?
The collagen used has been verified to be free of GMO’s by a third party lab.

How many servings in one container?
About 30 days or 30 servings.

How many grams of protein per serving?
10 grams of hydrolyzed collagen which are peptides.

How many calories per serving?
One gram of protein is 10 calories, one serving is 40 grams so 40 calories per serving. The other ingredients have no caloric value.

Since it’s powder, is it easy to absorb?
It is easily digestible not because it is a powder but because it is hydrolyzed by an enzymatic process. They are “pre-digested” collagen peptides. Studies show that 90% of collagen peptides enter the bloodstream within 6 hours of ingestion.

Are there any side effects?
No, not from the collagen.  If you are allergic to shellfish there is glucosamine and chondroitin in the formula.
